What I want most is to understand the landscape I paint.”

About Jean Francois Arnaud
Jean Francois Arnaud graduated from the Beaux-Arts in 1999. He was the head designer for a ski company, owned an advertising agency and managed a printing press. His knowledge of color and printing paved the way at how he approaches his watercolor. As in printing, the image has 3 primary colors and how these colors are arranged with tone and value, is how the image is perceived.
Jean Francois Arnaud is also an avid plein air artist and has exhibited his work throughout Europe. This will be his first visit to the United States to teach a watercolor workshop and the WSST is honored to have been chosen as his host.
He is an exhibiting member of many art societies worldwide and belongs to the esteemed International Watercolor Society – France.
Watercolor Impressionism – Landscapes/Seascapes
This workshop will focus on the use of watercolor to paint exciting impressionistic paintings. You will paint from photographs and will explore the use of light and shadow to create interesting compositions and achieve dynamic results.
We will examine the fundamentals of watercolor painting to assure that all students are familiar with the techniques. Daily discussions and application of the principles and elements of design will be woven into your painting experience.
Each day you will engage in exercises that will solidify the content that you are working on and spend time learning basic and more advanced watercolor painting techniques.
Jean will demonstrate his approach to creating impressionistic watercolors and bringing out the light, that is so crucial to every watercolor. He will show how to prepare a watercolor painting using a smaller painting to prepare for the larger work.
Jean welcomes both novice and advanced students and tailors the experience to individual needs.
